CRR Community Impact
Agnes, age 34, is a beneficiary of the Access to Justice Program run by the Center for Reparation and Rehabilitation (CRR). She was an audience participant in a radio program hosted by CRR in Gaya Parish. The subject of the program was: is it proper for widows and children to inherit the property of their late husbands/fathers?
Agnes had this to say about her experience:
“I participated in the radio program, the ‘kabake’ (community radio debate), organized by CRR which was the first of its kind in our parish. I was very excited to participate in this radio talk show, because the topic affects my life very much. My husband died four years ago and left me with four children whom I am still looking after. When my husband died his brothers grabbed most of the plots of land that I used to farm when he was alive and now I have only two pieces of land that I farm to take care of my children. If I had known that widows also have rights over land and property of their late husband I would not have lost those plots of land. CRR activities should continue because it’s empowering women by educating them about their rights to land and property. CRR has changed my life. They have given me something that will never be taken away from me: knowledge. I now know my rights to property and inheritance and this will help me in the future.”
