Head of Office, International Centre for Transitional Justice in Uganda
Michael Otim is one of northern Uganda’s most prominent civil society activists and one of a few experts on transitional justice issues in Uganda. He has been responsible for bringing the plight of northern Ugandans into the national and international spotlight. Mr. Otim currently serves as Head of Office for the International Centre for Transitional Justice in Uganda. He was formerly Director of the Gulu District NGO Forum where he was responsible for coordination of more than 100 NGOs in Gulu District. He co-founded the Justice and Reconciliation Project, which empowers communities to take a local approach to reintegration of former LRA combatants. Mr. Otim was directly involved in the Juba peace negotiations; he attended as a formal Observer as Secretary to the Cultural and Religious leader's delegation to the talks. He is also the minister for rehabilitation within the traditional leadership of the Acholi, the primary tribe occupying northern Uganda. Having met with Joseph Kony and survived a number of LRA attacks, Mr. Otim has a wealth of personal and professional experience that facilitates his important role in northern Uganda’s continued recovery. Mr. Otim holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Makerere University in Kampala and a master’s degree in business administration from Gulu University.
