Pader Girls Academy Head Girl Makes Headlines During Visit to London, July 2010
Uganda Fund Announces New Grantee
Uganda Fund video that aired at the Clinton Global Initiative 2009 annual
meeting.
Pauline, Head Girl at Pader Academy
This is Pauline. She is 19, in Grade 10 at the Pader Girls
Academy, which is funded by The Uganda Fund. At age 11, Pauline was
abducted by the LRA and spent 7 years in captivity in the bush where
she suffered horrific violence. Pauline is one of scores of former
sex slaves who now learn and live in the safety of the Pader Girls
Academy, receiving a high school education. The vast majority of
girls in these situations have children as a result of rape, which
makes them ineligible for Ugandan public schools. The Pader Girls
Academy is the only school in northern Uganda to educate girls who
are pregnant or have children. It truly serves the most vulnerable
of the vulnerable. Pauline was recently elected Head Girl of the
Academy. She is a most impressive young woman and a testament to the
strength of the human spirit! Pauline is being interviewed in this
video by Ambassador Allan Rock, Chair of the Uganda Fund.
